Howard Baumgarten LPC, Founder & Director
Howard Baumgarten, LPC, is the visionary Founder and Director of Atomic Behavioral Care, LLC, where he leads the strategic direction and operations of the organization. With extensive experience as a Licensed Professional Counselor, author, consultant, speaker, and teacher, Howard has established himself as a prominent figure in the field. He developed and taught one of the first private practice business courses in a CACREP-approved graduate program in counseling at the University of Colorado. In 2013, he created Smart Practice Central, a platform aimed at fostering intelligent and ethical practice development for private practices and healthcare agencies. His notable contributions include the book “Private Practice Essentials: Business Tools for Mental Health Professionals” and his research on compassion fatigue and resilience, culminating in the development of “Integrative Resilience Theory.”
At Atomic Behavioral Care, Howard is committed to empowering clinicians through business mentorship, clinical consultation, and professional coaching on the personal challenges that come with owning and operating a therapy business. His role involves cultivating a collaborative and supportive environment within the Atomic community, where clinicians can access tailored assistance and training to enhance their practice. Howard is equally dedicated to fostering partnerships and alliances that further Atomic’s mission of promoting success and well-being among mental health professionals. His vision for Atomic is to provide individualized mentorship and ongoing training, blending business mentorship, clinical consultation, and professional coaching to help clinicians maintain autonomy in their practice while thriving professionally and enjoying a balanced life.
From the Director
I founded Atomic Behavioral as the next step in my career to help clinicians in private practice achieve success in their businesses. Mentoring others in business, clinical and personal wellness areas has been a cornerstone of my work as a therapist, adjunct professor, and business coach. With a successful counseling business of my own, I bring a wealth of experience in teaching, coaching, speaking, writing, counseling, and business consulting to provide a comprehensive package of services for practice owners.
In today’s challenging mental health care climate, it is crucial for providers to enhance their productivity and efficiency without compromising clinical excellence. Drawing from my extensive experience in private practice, I have developed a delivery system that offers strong business and clinical mentorship, along with essential professional coaching on the personal challenges of running a therapy business, while ensuring clinicians maintain their autonomy. Unlike traditional group practices that impose strict rules and expectations, Atomic values your uniqueness and provides support on your terms.
